l'inizio (the start.)

Traveling is one significant perk to military life. When you choose to pursue a military career in the Air National Guard, traveling is 1/3 what presents itself through a chain of command and 2/3 what you find for yourself. That’s how we got here.

Aside from the how is the why. I’m in my 20th year of marriage to this Major of mine. Out of necessity, while we were 19 year old love birds, I traveled to visit him at his base in the UK where we discovered (almost by accident) that we make for excellent travel companions. Fast forward to us having two little girls and we knew that once we had full on KIDS (as opposed to diaper wearing, nap needing, goldfish consuming toddler/babies) we wanted to offer world travel to our additional Jr. Travel Companions.

The pros outweigh the cons every time. The stress of solo parenting the girls and getting them successfully from point A to the Major at point B usually leaves me sweating, exhausted, and in need of an immediate vacation. I’ve had to travel with kids and experience:

  • a lost backpack on an airport tram (oh! and don’t worry. that bag had my wallet, diapers, snacks, and fully loaded tablets for my babies)

  • a canceled flight (which left us stranded in an airport)

  • a sick child who was puking in the aisles of a plane that we couldn’t disembark

Even after all of that, the joy, wonder, and memories that are stockpiled and filed in our hearts and minds is the end that more than worth all the means. (That last part is from John Adams). This time we aren’t just on vacation. We are homeschooling. Come along as we invite you to join our journey.

A journey through Italy.

A journey to reuniting with our Major.

A journey to learning and documenting our learning together in a brand new way.

It’s sure to be messy. It’s sure to be chaotic. But it will also be beautiful. It will also be impactful. And best of all, it will be together.
