Dascalescu Update Week 1

February 1-4
We've been in Italy for 4 days. In that time, we already ate Roman pizza, pasta, pastries, and SO much gelato! We live in an apartment that has no elevator. But it does have a spiral staircase inside that takes you to 3 different floors- one of them being a rooftop terrace. Our dad took us to see our oldest neighbor- The Colosseum. It's the world's oldest amphitheater that is 1,937 years old! It was a place where Emperor Flavius had built to host the citizens of Rome in all sorts of games and festivities. The Colosseum could fit 50,000 modern day sized people inside of it. (Like an ancient Super Bowl!) We are learning a lot about life in the ancient world as Rome is one of the oldest cities on Earth. In fact, just like Philadelphia's city nickname is the "City of Brotherly Love," Rome's nickname is "the Eternal City."
Our mom is helping to home school us during the day everyday in our apartment. One nice thing is that during our school day, we can stop and go out into the city to get food and that in itself is a field trip! While eating lunch sometimes we play games fun games and weird games, too. We ate lunch in Rome's largest train station called Termini. While there we saw the coolest hats!
When we got these hats our dad thought that they were silly because they pop up the ears when you squeeze the bottom sides of the hat. As an added bonus, when our dad told us to "listen up," one of us popped up her ears on her hat and our whole family laughed so hard our mom had tears running down her cheeks. Very cool hats- 10 out of 10.

I love that you guys are doing a Blog! And while I loved hearing about the food, your school stuff, your cool apartment and the Coliseum (wow!), my favorite was imagining you all laughing at your hat ears going up!! I can almost see it and hear it!! Keep those great blog posts coming!
